Electrostatics Field Equipment

Bringing a charged rod close to an electroscope causes separation of charge, whereby attracting charges are more prevalent in the scope than repelling charges, causing the pointer to move towards the rod. This occurs whether the charge on the rod itself is positive or negative.

The potential measurement probe and the electric field meter can be used to study the equipotential lines around a charged sphere. When held in the radial clamp fixture, the probe can be conveniently swivelled into position along circles around the centre of the sphere. This shows that each of these circles represents an equipotential line.
